Easter Weekend has come.
I love Easter,,,But,,,I don't love the Easter bunny.
I actually dislike the Easter Bunny. I do not like filling my child's baskets full of useless toys and candy.
I really worry about spoiling and entitling them to things.
don't get me wrong we do Easter Baskets. We have done them every year, and every year it just doesn't sit right with me.
2012 was my year to change that.
I did not want to do away with fun baskets all together, but I really wanted the Kidletts to understand why we celebrate this Holiday.
Sooo, we didn't hide eggs, we didn't fill the baskets full of pointless frivolous items.
we filled the baskets with new church clothes, Church books, and other Christ centered things. Most importantly we got each of them their own picture of Christ for them to hang in their room. Don Juan and I wrote a little letter for them and taped them on the back so they would always have it.
I felt much better about this way of celebrating Easter.
It worked great and the Kidletts were just as excited about their Church items as they had been about their toys in the past.
they did get a little candy.
I made them little carrots out of construction paper and filled them with jelly beans.
Maybe next year I will be brave enough to make the Holiday Candy Free.
If I make it candy free I don't have to make it Pie free right? I am pretty sure I ate an entire lemon meringue pie by myself tonight.
I am literally hiding from the pie now because the little bits and pieces I left are calling my name.
Happy Easter
